Long time coming

It’s been a long time coming, but over the course of a few months I have begun to use WordPress almost exclusively with my freelance projects. I’ve gone from being confused when looking at the backend of themes, to getting around quite well. Conditional statements abound in a recent project. It’s all so fascinating! I do have to give props to Jay Elliot Stock‘s “Starkers” blank theme for WordPress. That is the foundation of all my themes/sites that I create.

I have worked on 4 projects (including this site) with WordPress, using an array of plug-ins and coming across a number of other helpful blogs myself.

Last weekend was spent on conditional statements, both in some sites and homework from my visual basic class. Next chapter in that class is going over looping, and the following over contact forms. Finally a web design chapter! I hope to make something fun out of that, granted it won’t run on here since it is ASP.net stuff, but you get the drift.

Tomorrow is the unveiling of the New Xbox Experience. I had signed up earlier this month for a chance to get into the public preview with microsoft. Each week they let a few thousand in to experience the update. Each week I looked through my email to find nothing from microsoft. As of last night, they had sent out everyone who had yet to receive an invite as a bonus for signing up. Did I receive mine? Nope. Did I check the information I filled out? Yes. No bueno microsoft. I’ll still get to play with it tomorrow. The waiting game sucks.

New WordPress

Well, thanks to the WordPress automatic updater, I am running high on the new version (2.6.3)! Well, I am in the planning stage for my own design. I have a sound mind it is going to be basic, but just how basic? Who knows.. I do want to do a few weird things that only I would do.

Speaking of design, I have been successfully made two new themes in WordPress. Both of which had some sort of base design, but I had to convert it to WordPress.

Working on transforming a website I created a few years ago into a WordPress Theme. I spent approximately two nights re-writing code and dumping it all in wordpress to find out the hosting server they have is a windows (asp only) server. I may ask them to switch in a few weeks. For right now the site is sitting in the new code. So we shall see.

Drawings. WP Fun

I am working on my first ever site using WP. Well, first site out of this. It’s been quite an adventure. I have all the ground world laid, and I am almost to the point where I can start merging the template and WP itself. Speaking of templates, I have been working on getitng this blog in motion, and it looks like things will be moving forward once I finish this project.

Now I remember almost a year ago, I had installed this for the first time and somewhere lost the love. Boy did I go wrong!! Not this time! I need to get everything back up to working order and then a new version will come eventually.

I have drawn out quite a few templates from some random ideas I have. I’ll be sitting in class and I get this design in my head, so I’ll pull out a sheet of paper and doodle. My friends think I am crazy, but I all ready knew that. More to come soon.
